All service packs can only be used for updating the corresponding program version, i.e. a service pack for version 5.00 requires an existing installation of VISSIM 5.00. The updates are cumulative, meaning that the latest service pack includes all previous ones of the same main version.
Customers with a maintenance contract receive an update of each new main version automatically. Service packs are not mailed automatically, however. (North American users can contact updater@ptvamerica.com to get information about maintenance and upgrades. Other users without a maintenance contract are kindly requested to send their enquiries to traffic.customerservice@ptv.de)
For the installation of the service pack, the downloaded *.exe file has to be started. The installation runs automatically after the selection of the VISSIM installation which is to be updated. Links in the start menu and on the desktop are changed to "VISSIM 5.0" unless they were renamed during the base installation or after that.
For the installation of the online help, the downloaded *.zip file has to be unpacked with a suitable program and the file VISSIMeng.chm must be copied into the subdirectory Exe\ of your VISSIM installation.
For the creation of an installation CD with the VISSIM Viewer, the downloaded *.zip file has to be unpacked with a suitable program. After this, you can find a description of the procedure in the file viewer_readme.txt in the directory VISSIM_Viewer\.
